Iron Man Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray news from Paramount, kinda
July 31, 2008
So when we talked to Jon Favreau way back in 2006(?!), who would’ve thought that Paramount’s Iron Man would’ve been such a big hit? Well, we did, because we think Jon Rocks — and Iron Man Rocks — so of course it would be an excellent fun summer flick. So we’ve been watching our clock, tapping our toes, waiting for the news on the Blu-ray Iron Man release.
Via the Amazon.com preorder page, there’s news of an Iron Man (Special Collector’s Edition) [Blu-ray] (2008) — with a release date of September 30th. No specs or anything else, just that the Blu-ray Disc Iron Man is listed at $39.99. Nothing officially has been announced on Iron Man Blu-ray news from Paramount, and trust me, we tried contacting everyone there.
Since we’re such good friends with Jon Favreau, perhaps we’ll drop him a note and dig for answers. Stay tuned.
Update: OK Ok! Here’s the official Blu-ray news from Paramount: Iron Man Blu-ray News

News on Mike Myers’ ‘Austin Powers 4′
July 30, 2008

I’m told that Mike Myers has started writing Austin Powers 4 which will be an homage to his father. “It’s very personal with a father and son theme loosely based on his own life,” an insider tells me. As Myers has previously said, this fourth installment of the super spy spoof movie series will focus on Austin’s arch-villain Dr. Evil, who was based on Blofeld of the Bond films. But what hasn’t been known is that the AP4 plot is really about Dr. Evil and his son (introduced already as Scott Evil, played by Seth Green). Myers is penning his idea with Baby Mama’s Mike McCullers, who collaborated with Myers on Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Austin Powers 3: Goldmember. - from Nikki

Not funny ha-ha, but funny bang — Jerry Lewis held over gun in hand luggage
July 30, 2008
From UK:
The 82-year-old actor and comedian was stopped at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, en route to Detroit, when staff spotted the gun during routine baggage screening.
Police detained Lewis and confiscated a .22-calibre handgun. He was cited for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, a spokesman for Las Vegas police said.
The star’s manager, Claudia Marghilano, said the gun was a “hollowed-out prop gun” which Lewis uses in his stage show, adding that it was incapable of firing.
Shia LaBeouf Was Encouraged To Flee Crash Scene But Refused
July 30, 2008
From MTV:
It’s one of those dilemmas that sounds like it could have come right out of a movie: A young rising Hollywood star is in a late-night car crash involving alcohol and sees a chance to flee the scene and ditch responsibility.
According to a report on AccessHollywood.com, such a scenario played out early Sunday morning, when Shia LaBeouf was involved in a car crash that police now say was not his fault.
An alleged eyewitness to the crash, Brian Perrulli, told the site that he had arrived on the scene after the crash and stopped to help when he overheard the man who was in the vehicle LaBeouf hit telling the actor to leave the scene.
“Shia was tending to the other people in the car, signing over information, like insurance and stuff, and basically, I overheard the guy tell him, ‘You should just get out of here and go,’ and Shia said, ‘Nah, man. I gotta deal with this. My license plate, it’s my car. I don’t wanna go; I gotta deal with this,’” Perrulli said. The eyewitness added that the unnamed person from the other vehicle promised the “Indiana Jones” star that he would cover for him.
“The guy Shia hit told him, ‘You should get outta here,’ and ‘I never saw you,’ ” Perrulli claimed. “He said, ‘I never saw you,’ and Shia said, ‘No, man, I gotta stay here and deal with this. It’s my problem.’ ”
New Robocop ‘definitely not a sequel’
July 30, 2008
From MTV:
Serve the public trust. Protect the innocent. Uphold the law.
Robocop has three prime directives he has to follow at all times. Producer Brad Fischer has just one: “Make a great film,” he told MTV News of his hopes for a “Robocop” reboot, coming to theaters from director Darren Aronofsky in 2010.
And make no mistake, Fischer and his co-producer Mike Medavoy insisted: Their new “Robocop” is a reboot along the lines of “Batman Begins,” despite early online rumors to the contrary.
Asked where in the series the fourth film would fall, whether it would come after the first, second or third films in the series’ internal universe, Fischer and Medavoy were adamant that it would stand on its own, apart from the character’s earlier incarnations.
“None of [the earlier films are] going to be canonical, as a matter of fact,” Fischer revealed. “I wouldn’t say it’s a direct sequel.”
“Definitely not a sequel,” Medavoy added, saying he preferred the term “reimagining.”
Scandals? YouTube vids? Can’t hurt Miley Cyrus’ sales
July 30, 2008
From LATimes:
No amount of photo scandals and catty videos seem to be hurting Miley Cyrus’ sales potential. The teen star will debut at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday morning with the strongest showing of her career. Billboard has her “Breakout” selling 371,000 copies, a tally that’s strong enough to give Miley the second-highest debut by a female artist in 2008.
Only Mariah Carey fared better, selling 463,000 copies in her debut week. To put Miley’s total in perspective, her “Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus” opened at No. 1 last year with 326,000 copies, but that album was directly tied into her Disney Channel series and tour, whereas “Breakout” is a standalone Miley affair.
While the tween market is certainly one not to be taken lightly, Cyrus fared better than much-hyped 2008 releases from Madonna and Janet Jackson, respectively. Madonna’s “Hard Candy” sold 280,000 copies when it debuted earlier this year, and Janet came in with 181,000 copies back in March.
Paramount films fuel Viacom
July 30, 2008
From Variety:
Paramount’s triple play — Indy, “Iron Man” and “Kung Fu Panda” — punched up revenue at parent Viacom by 21% to $3.9 billion last quarter, providing welcome relief as slower advertising growth continues to rattle cable networks and punish media stocks.
“The media industry is not immune (to a slowing economy). I understand the frustration of shareholders who have seen share prices fall victim to the economy,” chairman Sumner Redstone said in an I-share-your-pain pep talk during a conference call. “There is opportunity even in difficult times for companies that have strong and enduring assets.”
James Cameron toplines 3DX panel
July 30, 2008
From Variety:
Twentieth Century Fox filmed entertainment chair Jim Gianopulos, DreamWorks Animation topper Jeffrey Katzenberg and director James Cameron will give a joint keynote at the kickoff event for 3DX, the 3-D film and technology festival slated for November in Singapore.
Plans for the joint presentation are still uncertain, but Gianopulos and Katzenberg are expected to begin the keynote, then bring Cameron in to join them.
The joint appearance is skedded for the 3DX business forum on Nov. 19.
Fox and DreamWorks have major bets on digital 3-D. Katzenberg has announced that all DreamWorks Animation releases going forward will be in 3-D, beginning with “Monsters vs. Aliens” in 2009.

Universal eyes Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards”
July 30, 2008
From Variety:
Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards” may soon find a home at Universal.
Studio is in negotiations to partner with the Weinstein Co. to bring the World War II drama to the bigscreen. Although deal points are still being ironed out, insiders say a pact is imminent.
The “Pulp Fiction” helmer and Harvey Weinstein met with five studios last week about co-financing the film, and it came down to Paramount and Universal. Par, which wanted to distribute the film in foreign territories, balked at a component of the pact that dealt with how grosses would be accounted given the way that Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” contract was structured.
‘Marvin the Martian’ to Invade
July 30, 2008
From Variety:
Warner Bros. is launching development of a “Marvin the Martian” feature at Alcon Entertainment, with principals Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove producing along with Steve Crystal.
Project will blend live action and CGI.
Marvin was created by Chuck Jones and made his first appearance in a Looney Tunes cartoon in 1948. The character was often intent on blowing up the Earth, only to be foiled by Bugs Bunny.
Crystal, a former Warner exec with a first-look deal at Alcon through his Charlie Co. banner, developed the pitch as a Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he’s trapped in a gift box. Alcon’s out to writers and directors.
Jack White & Alicia Keys Duet For James Bond’s Quantum of Solace
July 30, 2008
Forget all those Amy Winehouse rumours, the theme song for Quantum of Solace, the 22nd Bond film, will be sung by Alicia Keys and Jack White.
The song, called Another Way To Die, as the press release excitably informs us, will be the first duet in Bond history. The song is written and produced by White. Interestingly, he also played drums on the song, presumably leaving White Stripes bandmate Meg sitting at home carefully arranging her wardrobe into red and white.

Yeah! Kate Hudson and Nutless Lance Armstrong Split. Where’s Owen!?
July 30, 2008
From US:
Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong called it quits this weekend after a three-month romance that went public when they were spotted in Austin, Texas in mid-May, Usmagazine.com exclusively reports.
“There was no drama or ugliness – They just decided to end things,” a source close to the couple tells Us. “There is no hatred, just sadness.”
The pair quickly became inseparable with sightings of them in Austin, New York and Los Angeles – though both dodged questions about their relationship.
In the short time they were together, the 29-year-old actress was seen with the 36-year-old cyclist at many of his races and events, including his three-day Lance Armstrong Livestrong Summit in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend.
It was at the conference that Hudson and Armstrong decided to go their separate ways, a source tells Us.
Guillermo del Toro and Miramax not ‘Afraid of the Dark’
July 30, 2008
From THR:
Guillermo del Toro and Miramax will produce a remake of the horror-thriller telefilm “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” the specialty distributor’s first big dive into genre filmmaking under president Daniel Battsek.
Comic book artist-writer Troy Nixey will make his feature directorial debut with the adaptation of ABC’s 1973 cult classic. Del Toro is adapting Nigel McKeand’s teleplay with Matthew Robbins, his writing partner on the 1997 horror film “Mimic” for Miramax’s former genre label Dimension.
(Bob and Harvey Weinstein took the Dimension Films label and several genre projects with them when they left Walt Disney to form the Weinstein Co. in 2005)
“Dark” centers on a young girl, sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.
Michael Falbo, Miramax’s director of production and development, will oversee the project for the studio under president of production Keri Putnam.
Shia LaBeouf May Not Have Caused LaCrash
July 30, 2008
From People:
Shia LaBeouf may not have been at fault in a crash that flipped his truck early Sunday morning in West Hollywood, according to authorities.
“It appears he was not at fault,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Tuesday. “We have strong evidence that the other driver ran a red light.”
After the accident, LaBeouf, 22, was booked on suspicion of DUI at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where he received extensive surgery on injuries to his left hand.
“He was showing obvious signs of intoxication from the smell of alcohol coming from his breath,” Sgt. Scott Wolf told PEOPLE.

Snake-Eyes To Stay Silent For ‘G.I. Joe’ Movie
July 29, 2008
From MTV:
He’s one of fandom’s most celebrated characters, an honor-bound warrior upholding the virtues of an earlier time. And for a moment, he nearly sold his principals down the river simply to get a movie deal.
But thankfully Snake-Eyes, the black-clad, silent warrior of “G.I. Joe” averted a scandal that may have rocked the Internet community to its knees. And all thanks to one very protective father.
“We actually had Snake-Eyes utter one sentence at the very end of the movie,” revealed Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the producer behind the upcoming mega-budget “G.I. Joe” adaptation. “We thought [it] was very clever…Larry didn’t think it was clever at all.”
That Larry is, of course, comic writer Larry Hama. Having penned all 155 issues of the original Marvel run and numerous “Joe” series since, Hama was drafted by filmmakers to act as consultant to the project. And consult he did.
“The good news for us was we gave him the script and we held our breaths,” recalled di Bonaventura. “Because that was the moment where if he rejected the whole thing I’m not sure what we would have done. And what was great was he had really small notes, one or two very passionately held. And what Larry said was no matter what you guys think, you can’t have Snake-Eyes utter a word.”
Hand injury to keep stupid Shia LaBeouf off ‘Transformers’ sequel for month
July 29, 2008
From LATimes:
“Transformers” star Shia LaBeouf will need a month off to recuperate after getting hurt in a car accident that got him busted on drunk driving charges.
His reps say he’ll that much time to heal the mangled mitt he received when his truck smashed into another vehicle and rolled across a West Hollywood intersection around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
“Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month,” a statement from LaBeouf’s publicist and lawyers said.
Shaye, Lynne on for Isaac Asimov’s ‘Foundation’
July 29, 2008
From Variety:
Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are looking to the future — literally.
The New Line founders-turned-producers have signed on to produce their first project since they received their post-New Line deal at Warners, boarding an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s futuristic sci-fi epic “Foundation” that they’ll produce through their Unique Features banner.
Warners recently picked up “Foundation,” which had been in development at Fox. Vince Gerardis, who had been attached as a producer in the Fox incarnation, will remain on board as a producer for the Warners project with Shaye and Lynne.
“Foundation” is based on Asimov’s “Foundation Trilogy,” which centers on a society that has figured out how to predict the future based on a method called psychohistory and sets up a foundation devoted to scientific research to protect itself and ensure its survival.
Showtime revels in ‘Studio 54′ series
July 29, 2008
From THR:
Neil Meron (left) and Craig Zadan (Getty Images photo)
The 1970s era of disco, drugs and excess is coming back with “Studio,” a drama series project for Showtime centering on the iconic New York nightclub Studio 54.
The project, from writer Chad Hodge and “Hairspray” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, is being produced by MRC.
Bryan Singer is in talks to direct the potential pilot if his schedule permits.
“Studio” centers on flamboyant co-founder Steve Rubell and starts off in the months leading to the club’s April 1977 opening.
But “Studio,” which is in development, will be a fictional series and not a biopic or docudrama. Rubell will be the only real person featured, with the rest of the characters fictional or composites.
“The show is less about the history of Studio 54 than it is about New York in the late ’70s, what people were going through, the political and social issues,” Hodge said. “Studio 54 is the backdrop for exploring that.”
For Hodge, who was born the year the club opened, “Studio” has been a passion project: He’s been fascinated with Studio 54 — or Studio, as it was commonly known — for a long time.
Ali Lohan, Enough With The Choker
July 29, 2008
From DListed:
I’m beginning to think that the fug ass choker Ali Lohan always wears is what’s holding up her neck. She must be taking fashion advice from White Oprah. You know what’s worse? I decided to google “Ali Lohan choker” to see if there were people out there that hated her choker as much as I did. I want to start a group called “Sluts Against Ali Lohan’s Choker.” We all need a cause. Anyway, my google search led me to this question someone posted on Yahoo:
Where can you buy a black coker, like Ali Lohan wears?
I don’t like her, but I like that black choker she always wears on ‘Living Lohan’. Does anyone know where to get one? Links appreciated!
Black coker? She needs to ask White Oprah about that one. This is a bigger problem than I thought! Someone out there actually wants to wear one of Ali Lohan’s black “cokers.” I’m so tempted to write this lost child with, “I don’t know where you can buy a black coker, but I do know where you can by a noose.”
