EXCLUSIVE: Jamie Bell has been set to star in Man On A Ledge, the Summit Entertainment crime drama that will star Sam Worthington. Reports have The Hurt Locker's Anthony Mackie also negotiating. The film's being directed by Asger Leth, best known for his documentary Ghosts of Cite Soleil. He's gathering a strong cast for his Hollywood debut, a nice rebound after the implosion of Cartel, the La Scorta remake Leth was set to direct until its plug got pulled by Universal last April, seven weeks from shooting with Josh Brolin in the starring role.
Scripted by Pablo Fenjves with a rewrite underway from Red scribes Erich and Jon Hoeber, Man on a Ledge begins production November in New York. Bell plays a cop thrown in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Let out for his father's funeral, he escapes and ends up on a hotel ledge threatening to kill himself. Worthington plays his brother, who happens to be planning a heist of a jewelry store across the street while the cop threatens suicide. Mackie would play Bell's ex-partner. The pic's produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and David Ready. Still to be cast is the role of a female psychiatrist who figures strongly into the plot. Rumors have Amy Adams interested, but there is no deal yet.

The Emmys may have just ended Sunday night but that isn't stopping the Hollywood awards machine from kicking into gear, first on Wednesday at the Venice Film Festival with a rapturous reception for opener, Black Swan which received a resounding standing ovation for director Darren Aronofsky and stars Natalie Portman and Vincent Cassel and now the first U.S. stop on the long freight train to Oscar (2/27/11), the 37th annual Telluride Film Festival.
It officially begins Friday running through Labor Day in the remote and rustic town of Telluride, Colorado. This must-stop for cineastes known for it's friendly , relaxed vibe and it's esoteric mix of indie, foreign and classics has also in recent years become an early, important cog in the awards industry where such Best Picture winners and nominees like Slumdog Millionaire, Juno and Up In The Air have launched their campaigns even before they hit the much bigger and more publicized Toronto Film Festival (beginning September 9th this year). Telluride's lineup, always kept a secret until the last minute, was finally revealed today and in addition to such little known entries as Oka! Amerikee and Pygmies In Paris there will be a slew of Oscar hopefuls rolling into town jazzing things up . The festival is able to get these films because they don't advertise them in advance and is happy to let Toronto claim North American or even World Premieres even ... Read More »

If the casting of Tom Hardy in the lead role of Mad Max: Fury Road didn't convince you that this is already a film worthy of your hard-earned cash, maybe this news will. The movie hasn't started shooting yet—it won't until next year—but we now have some numbers to give a sense of the amount of vehicular chaos that's going to ensue. In short: A lot.
Transmoto has some brief words from motorcycle stuntman Cameron Taylor, who's currently rehearsing stunts for Fury Road, and he let slip, "It's a big budget deal that's got 130 cars and bikes and 298 stunts!"
Gordon and the Whale points out that the '80s film The Junkman holds the Guiness Book of World Records for most amount of car crashes in a movie, with over 250 wrecks to behold.
Now, the "298 stunts" in Fury Road doesn't necessarily refer exclusively to crashes, but it still puts into ...

Two new producers have joined the show: helmer Fred Keller (Boomtown, 24, House) as producer & director and writer Linda Gase (Standoff, The District) as consulting producer. Keller's deal came after he directed episode 3 of the cop/family drama starring Tom Selleck. His work on the episode, which coincided with Sanzel's departure, got solid marks from the show's executive producers: creators Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green and Leonard Goldberg. As for the show, "it is running really smoothly and is coming in even better," an insider said. Keller is with Kaplan Stahler and Fineman Entertainment.
Liam Neeson Reteaming With Joe Carnahan for ‘The Grey'; Replaces Bradley Cooper

Early this year, Joe Carnahan revealed one project he wants to make as his follow-up to The A-Team: a film called The Grey. It soon became a Carnahan / Bradley Cooper film, and we even went with the obvious headline 'Bradley Cooper and Joe Carnahan Reteam on The Grey.'
Now it's time to rework that headline, as Bradley Cooper is out of the picture, and Liam Neeson has stepped in. Suddenly, this might be a very different movie.
To recap, The Grey is "about a group of Alaskan pipeline workers whose plane crash lands on their way back home from a remote work site. The workers then find themselves hunted by a pack of wolves. Carnahan describes it as “very much a man vs. nature adventure, existentialist kind of drama that I want to do.”
I like that setup, and with THR running the news that Liam Neeson is replacing Bradley Cooper, ...

Anthony Mackie is in talks to join Man on a Ledge, the cop thriller that already has Sam Worthington on board. The story kicks off with "a female psychologist and a former NYPD officer who threatens to jump to his death," which sounds pretty eh. But the potential suicide is a smokescreen to obscure a massive diamond heist. Wait, did you say 'heist,' and Anthony Mackie? OK, officially more interested.

After the break, a great cast for a questionable sci-fi picture, and more potential shark victims go in the water.
