Q. If you landed on a deserted island with a portable DVD player and three DVD’s, which titles would you like to have along?
A. “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy” and Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights”. To me they are just some of the most awesome films ever made!
Q. What’s your favorite DVD commentary?
A. John Carpenter and Kurt Russel on “The Thing”
Q. Where do you stand on Blu-ray and HD-DVD?
A. I used to be a Blu-Ray proponent but in the meanwhile I think there’s room for both formats, and I honestly like HD-DVD just as much. Soon we’ll see players that play everything from a slice of toast to CD, MP3, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-ray, so it won’t matter at all. Right now I’m just happy about all these incredible-looking movies arriving on my desk in high definition so I can revisit them and drool all over the quality.
Q. What movie inspired you to do what you do?
A. It’s not so much a movie but a person - Charlie Chaplin. I am a huge fan of his and admire his genius as well as his persistence, vision and perfectionism. I try to apply these things to my own life as good as I can.
Q. What’s your favorite terribly awful movie?
A. My guilty pleasure would be Ed Wood’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” hands down.
Q. Any thoughts on Oscar 07? Best Film?
A. Tough call at this point. But I think we will definitely find “Cars” somewhere in the mix, as well as “A Scanner Darkly.”
