UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Aug. 7 — “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” the comic crime caper turned cult classic, comes to DVD for the first time in a Locked ‘N Loaded Unrated Director’s Cut on October 3, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The feature film writing and directing debut of action auteur Guy Ritchie (”Snatch,” “Revolver”), this lowlife lark through London’s seamy underground includes additional action and plot twists never before released in the U.S. Starring Jason Statham (”Snatch”, “The Transporter” 1 & 2), Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher, Nick Moran, Sting, Lenny McLean and P.H. Moriarty, “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” tells the tale of a quartet of incompetent con artists up to their necks in trouble with a murderous crime boss. In “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” Ritchie weaves a tangled web of lightheartedly lethal characters on a helter-skelter thrill ride through London’s gangland that ends in a gleeful explosion of murder and mayhem.
Four would-be wise guys try to con an East End crime kingpin with deadly results in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.” When Eddie (Nick Moran) and his three pals find themselves deep in deadly debt to the ominously named “Hatchet Harry” Lonsdale (P.H. Moriarty), the crew bungles its way through comically chaotic twists and turns, including a high-stakes poker game, a rogues’ gallery of villains and victims, mistaken identities and a pair of missing antique double-barreled shotguns that everyone wants to get his hands on. The DVD is priced at $19.98 SRP. Pre-order close is August 15, 2006.
Synopsis
Streetwise charmer and card shark Eddy (Nick Moran) risks the life-savings of his three best mates, Tom (Jason Flemyng), Bacon (Jason Statham) and Soap (Dexter Fletcher) in a high stakes poker match he thinks is a sure thing. When the game turns out to be a set up, Eddie ends up owing half a million pounds to a deadly underworld character, “Hatchet” Harry (P.H. Moriarty), who gives him a week to come up with the cash. Scrambling to save their skins, Eddy and his mates concoct a cockeyed plan to pay off their debt and leave them sitting pretty, but they unwittingly put themselves right back in Harry’s lethal path. The tightly plotted script and sharp directing take guns, cash, drugs and mistaken identities and transform them into a boisterous comedy packed with pulsating, unpredictable energy.
