June 30, 2008

From People:

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck met up with Matt Damon and his heavily pregnant wife, Luciana Barroso, at Nobu Malibu on Saturday night for a two-hour dinner on the patio that included cooked fish and sushi rolls.

“Ben and Matt were entertaining the girls with stories, and they were all laughing a lot,” says an observer of the couples.

When dessert came, the celebratory group toasted – after all, Garner and Affleck’s third wedding anniversary was the following day.

Jason Bourne 4 is a Go, To Be Released in 2010

June 28, 2008

Producer Frank Marshall revealed to IESB plans to begin shooting a fourth Jason Bourne movie next Summer, for release in 2010. Universal announced the project back in February, with director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon set to return. Marshall also confirmed that they will probably be creating an original story for the fourth film, since author/creator Robert Ludlum wasn’t involved in the later books in the series. “There was a fourth book written, but it was not by Mr. Ludlum. So we’re probably going to take our own direction and we’re working on what that storyline’s gonna be right now.” - from /Film

Matt Damon joins Freeman in Eastwood’s WB drama

June 4, 2008

Matt Damon has committed to star in “Human Factor,” joining Morgan Freeman in the Clint Eastwood-directed film for Warner Bros.
Shooting will begin early next year in South Africa.

Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who created, with Nelson Mandela, an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid.

The Anthony Peckham-scripted drama is an adaptation of John Carlin’s book “The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World.”

Mandela, freed from 27 years in prison and elected president, decided to get behind South Africa’s Springboks team when the country was selected as host country for the 1985 Rugby World Cup. The Springboks had been banned from international competition because of the country’s apartheid practices.

Web Stumbles On-Air

March 1, 2008

“Quarterlife,” beacon of dreams for many a scribe, has yet to make a dime online. The web skein has found a steady aud since its early November launch, but its viewership is tiny compared with online sensations such as “The Landlord” and “I’m (bleeping) Ben Affleck,” last week’s answer to “I’m (bleeping) Matt Damon.” Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick’s twentysomething serial, which bowed on NBC last week to miniscule ratings, isn’t alone. Programmers are still trying to figure out how to build — and retain — an aud for serialized shows online. Last week, Disney-ABC Television Group launched Stage 9 Digital Media, an experimental new media division, bowing the comedy skein “Squeegees” on Feb. 28.

Damon and Greengrass are Bourne Again…

February 26, 2008

“The announcement is tucked away in an article about Universal and its upcoming slate on Variety. ‘More recently, [Universal’s chairman, Marc] Shmuger and [co-chairman, David] Linde landed Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon for a fourth “Bourne” movie, even though the director and star seemed ready to wrap it up after three pics,’ reads the sentence in question. And after that, nothing. No more news, or any indication of where a fourth Bourne might take us – or, crucially, when.”

SAG Justice League! Clooney is Batman, Hanks is Superman, Streep is Wonder Woman, De Niro is Martian Manhunter. But who’s Gleek? Matt Damon!

February 17, 2008

“Ordinarily, the banding together of George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro would be a producers’ dream. But the A-list foursome’s latest group project may not be exactly what Hollywood had in mind. The influential thesps—Oscar winners all—have teamed up to urge the Screen Actors Guild to begin early contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to avoid another Industry-debilitating work stoppage. The actors’ union’s contract with producers is set to expire June 30.

In full-page advertisements in the Industry trade papers Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, the superstar four addressed their 120,000 or so peers in the guild. “As proud members of SAG, we have seen the effect of a long-running strike on our community,” the ad reads. “Now that the writers have agreed to a deal, our hope is to get people back to work.” The ad, which ends with the stars’ names, continues: “Issues are important…Nothing can be solved until both parties agree to sit down together…There is too much at stake to wait.”"
