McG talks Terminator 4, addresses rumors

June 4, 2008

If you were browsing l’interweb yesterday, you may have seen a possible spectacular spoiler for Terminator 4, aka Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Don’t worry, we’re not going to write it here, but, if it were true, it would be a very, very big plot reveal. Updating his official blog, McG has addressed the circulating scuttlebutt, suggesting that he’s keeping up with everything that’s said about this movie.

“There are only three people who know the ending. The unknown future rolls toward us,” he said. Diversion or proof the rumour is wrong? Who knows, but we hope it’s the latter.

The director also revealed a bit more about the robots that will be seen in this film, which takes place in the dark days of the war between humans and Skynet.

“In this film, there are Hydrobots that patrol the water, Transports that move human prisoners around, Harvesters that collect human beings as lab rats for Skynet and Aerostats that survey all that is going on with the resistance the world over….We’ve started shooting the T-600 - the bigger, grimier, nastier version that preceded the T-800. Like Reese says, they’re easier to spot but they pack a mini gun and carry kick ass fire power. They’re eight-foot tall killers that prowl the badlands looking for anything with a heartbeat to terminate.”

Despite all the buzz, and exec producer McG, and a “phenomenal cast”, Spaced is a no-go, I’m told.

McG’s Retarded Terminator is PG-13

May 5, 2008

The “Terminator” will indeed be back — but this time with a more kid-friendly rating.
As production starts today on “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” the next installment in the action franchise, producers at the Halcyon Co. say they aim to deliver a PG-13 movie to Warner Bros. for release on May 22, 2009.

The “Terminator” series is one of the highest-grossing R-rated franchises of all time, with the first three films having grossed more than $1.03 billion worldwide. But Halcyon producers thought it was time to broaden the upcoming fourth film’s audience base, and they believe the PG-13 won’t compromise the series’ gritty vision.

A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a “Terminator Salvation” licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys.

“Our merchandising program will be the largest to date for ‘The Terminator,’ ” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Derek Anderson, ex-owner of ad agency In the Mix, who adds that he had not discussed the possibility of an R-rating with Warners. “We won’t force it. We are carrying on in the tradition of the mythology, with an exciting approach to the action. If we can make a compelling film to reach the widest audience, why wouldn’t we do it?”

McG finds an additional project to crap on

March 25, 2008

Emerging victorious in a bidding war, Warner Bros. has picked up “I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President.” The studio acquired the book proposal from “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” scribe Josh Lieb for McG to produce via his Wonderland Sound and Vision shingle. Lieb is on board to adapt his book — which might be the snappiest title of the year and certainly is among the longest.

They lost me at “McG Protege”

February 29, 2008

“Veteran producer Bridget Johnson will produce “Bumped,” a modern-day version of “The Breakfast Club,” with McG protege Anna Mastro attached to direct from a script by Lizzy Weiss. “Bumped” is a comedy-drama revolving around five twentysomethings — including a corporate go-getter, a musician and a flirt — who normally wouldn’t be friends but who get to know one another when they’re bumped from a flight and wind up stranded at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.”
