Seth Rogen IS afraid of no ghost
Q: Your name has unofficially been attached to ‘Ghostbusters 3.’ Has anyone talked to you formally about that?
Seth: No. Not at all.
Q: Were would you fall on that?
Seth: It’s hard to imagine that would be good, isn’t it? I mean just as a movie fan I am the first guy to be skeptical of that. It sounds like a terrible idea when you first hear it. At first hearing it sounds like the worst idea ever. I dunno. Maybe. I mean, that would have to be one mutherfucking good script.
Q: But you’ve worked with Ramis before. If he was involved would it be harder to say no?
It all depends on how bad the script was. (Laughs.) There is a point where it’s so bad it’s really easy to say no. I have enough insulation around me now that I don’t have to say anything.

Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet Becomes Funny
“We feel no obligation to live up to anything I’ve said to any of you people in the past,” Rogen told me today at the Zack & Miri press day. “When we’re writing I can’t go, ‘Fuck, I told CHUD we weren’t going to do that! Let’s do it anyway!’
“Me and Evan [Goldberg] talk a lot of shit. We have one rule when writing, and that’s don’t get attached to anything. One day we want to make a serious film and then Stephen Chow comes in with a good idea and we’re like, ‘Well it’s funny.’ Should we not do it because we originally wanted to do a serious film? We come from, nah fuck it, we’ll just take the idea that seems good. So it’s definitely less serious than a serious film, that’s for sure. We want the action… I say now that we want the action to play serious but Stephen could come in tomorrow and say ‘You know what? I want to throw you 400 feet in the air!’ and I’d go, ‘OK, that sounds cool.’
“We’re very open now. Right now is when we’re in the process of deciding what this movie is going to be on a practical level. The story is the same; we’ve always known the story we wanted to tell, so it’s easy within that to discuss the various sensibilities and reality levels and humor levels and stuff like that. To us, we hoped the director would come in and give us lots of ideas and directions to work with, and that’s what he’s doing.”

Judd Apatow Blu-ray Film Fest: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up
The delivery came. 3 Blu-ray upcoming releases from the Judd Apatow comedy factory – this latest hits Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. First up was Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which I hadn’t seen in the theaters. The other two, of course, I’ve previously caught on DVD and on the big screen.
I didn’t expect to like this flick, but wow, I had a blast. Most of us are probably fans of the shows that make these actors familiar to us (Freaks & Geeks, Veronica Mars, How I Met Your Mother, 70s Show). But does this talent translate to film? I say emphatically yes. Jason Segel takes a solo trip to Hawaii to help get over his failed long-term relationship with Kristen Bell. Coincidentally, Bell and her new boyfriend (flaky rockstar unknown actor) are at the same resort at the same time. Despite this or because of it, Segel and Mila Kunis begin to develop a romantic interest. Funny stuff ensues. Forgetting Sarah Marshall has to have some of the best comic timing provided all year. Superbly edited, flashback scenes of their relationship make us laugh while the finer points of their downfall are brought to consciousness. As a successful music man, Peter understandably yearns for something bigger. How they fit in his composition of `Dracula: The Rock Opera,’ a stage musical, is masterful. Rachel can at least appreciate his original for what it is.
The Blu-ray DVD just looks superb and sexy (ok, that’s basically because of Kristen and Mila) – and Hawaii is beautifully shot. I actually wanted to plan my next vacation at this resort. Crisp, clean, great transfer – wonderful in high def! Also, it contains a digital copy for iTunes – a great bonus that all DVDs should be offering.
Moving on to 40 Year Old Virgin, I didn’t want to be disappointed. This was Judd Apatow’s first big hit – and I was curious how the flick stood the test of time. Also, I’m a fan of The Office and Steve Carell. I loved it when saw it in the theater – so I was worried if Steve and Judd become more blah upon being revisited. Actually, I still enjoy this movie. I even have more respect for Catherine Keener, Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen the 3rd time around. The 40 Year Old Virgin is better than it deserves to be, largely thanks to a performance from Steve Carell that’s credible and likable enough for it not to matter that most of the laughs in the script go to his co-stars in scenes on the sidelines that have little to do with advancing the plot.
Sadly, this movie should have looked MUCH cleaner and sharper. Really, this movie is only 2 year old – why it contained artifacts is beyond me. Not a great Blu-ray demo disc – but probably a bit better than the standard DVD release. The features were ho-hum… I could see this being rereleased in a few years.
Last in the Judd Apatow Film Fest: The Seth Rogen hit Knocked Up. I’m starting to become a bit ZZZZ on Seth Rogen. Perhaps it is just because he’s over-exposed right now, basically playing the EXACT character in each movie. And I still can’t get beyond the fact that hottie Katherine Heigl had sex and stayed with Seth Rogen, no matter how drunk. Regardless, the cast was hilarious and fully capable of handling anything Judd Apatow’s script could throw at them, and each created such fun and engaging characters that there was never a dull moment in the movie. Seth Rogen’s character of Ben was hilarious as we get to see how uncomfortable he is around kids, yet over time he matures into a more responsible adult who is essentially ready to do what is necessary as a parent to a newborn child.
The Knocked Up Blu-ray transfer looked great. Sometimes it was a bit yellowish and not crisp here and a bit soft. The only Blu-ray exclusive extras is the picture-in-picture U-Control feature, which is very well-done with plenty of extras, as well as a video version of the audio commentary.
Seth Rogen in for ‘Cancer’ comedy
Is the world ready for a cancer comedy? Seth Rogen and Mandate Pictures think so.
Mandate has picked up “I’m With Cancer,” a comedic autobiographical spec written by Will Reiser that Rogen will produce with his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin (”The Daily Show With Jon Stewart”).
Rogen also will have a supporting role in the film.
“Cancer” is Reiser’s account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease. Reiser was a producer and field producer on HBO’s “Da Ali G Show” and VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” He works with Karlin at Super Ego Industries, the HBO-based shingle that Karlin set up in 2007. Reiser also will exec produce “Cancer.”

Kevin Smith to create original superhero movie starring Seth Rogen
Director and comic-book writer Kevin Smith told SCI FI Wire that he wants Seth Rogen to star in a superhero movie he’s developing, an original science fiction visual-effects extravaganza.
“First, I’m going to do a 180 turn and do a horror movie called Red State,” Smith said in an interview Sept. 7 at the Toronto International Film Festival. “It’s going to be a total horror-political-psychological movie without a funny line in it. Then I’m going to do the science fiction superhero movie. It’s going to be an original superhero that I’ve created. It’s stewing right now. I want to do it, though, and, God willing, it will star Seth Rogen.”

Zack and Miri Make a Porno NSFW Red Band Movie Trailer
The official red band movie trailer for Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno has been released online. If there was any more that required a red band movie trailer, it is Zack and Miri. We get the big reveal of the porno movie within the movie, Star Whores, the genius that is The Office’s Craig Robinson, the amazing evolving cinematography of David Klein (who woulda thought the same guy shot Clerks?!) and Traci Lord’s secret. – from /Film
Kevin Smith Promises Full-Frontal Nudity In ‘Porno,’ Despite R Rating
MTV: When we spoke to you about “Zack and Miri” last year, both you and Rogen teased a shot of full-frontal nudity. So do we get to see the jewels on display?
Smith: Yeah! You get one definitive ba– shot then you get a bonus ba– shot in the movie later on. It’s all of [Jason] Mewes. You get to see every inch of Mewes in this movie.
MTV: I take it that the “Silence of the Lambs” tuck shot of him in “Clerks II” wasn’t enough?
Smith: I was gonna say we came close, and this time we were like, “Why are we tucking? It’s got ‘Porno’ in the title.” He was rather courageous about it. … Took him a while to be convinced, though. It was shocking, actually, how long it took me to convince him, considering that this is a dude that if you know him five minutes will take his co– out anyway. But the idea, I guess, of doing it on film — preserving it — gave him a slight pause. And then he immediately was like, “OK, I’m gonna do it.”
MTV: How graphic do you get with the sex in the film?
Smith: Apparently graphic enough that they gave us an NC-17.
MTV: Which was appealed successfully.
Smith: Right, they flipped it and gave us an R. And then a few days later, I was up at Skywalker [Sound] doing the mix — a playback. So we watched the flick from end to end, and at the end of it I was like, “They might have had a point!” I got so dialed in on the two moments they focused on — I clearly didn’t think those were NC-17 moments to this day, but then when I sat back and watched the entire flick, I was like, “They have a point.” I’m not saying they were right, but I’m saying it’s pretty out there.
